The calculation of clinical capacity requirements estimates
rooms, equipment, and support spaces required to accommodate the future patient volume at optimal utilization rates. Annual
patient volume, budgeted or estimated growth projections, average case time, and routine hours of operation are included in
the analysis. Where growth projections are uncertain, scenarios representing possible alternate futures are developed and
compared. Volume levels that trigger the need for additional capacity is also determined to assist in the decision of "how
much capacity" to build (i.e., an additional room is not needed until volumes reach 10,000 annual procedures).
